Dr Tim Everett LLB LLM PhD FCIEH CMCIH FRSPH CEnvH

I am a trainer and researcher in Environmental Health law, and on retiring (after a fashion!) in 2012, I have run training workshops around the UK. Since the Covid-19 pandemic started, these have gone online, which has made them more easily and cheaply accessible.

As part of those workshops, I have always welcomed questions and requests for detailed advice. I have published regular updates on these topics. Sending PDF documents round as a bcc list is not the best way of communicating these days, so I have set up this website. I want it to be a simpler and easier way for practitioners to both keep up to date and to ask questions.

As you can see, I have qualifications in environmental health, law, and housing. I also have done postgraduate qualifications in business and pollution control. I have recently completed a PhD in law, researching the effectiveness of the statutory nuisance procedure. Having used this from the start of my career, I still find it fascinating that it remains a powerful tool to deal with a range of problems that affect many peoples’ everyday lives.

CIEH

I have been a student member/member/fellow of the CIEH for 49 years. I was a Trustee/General Councillor from 1994-2000, and again from 2012-2017. Having been President of the London Centre for 5 years, I was its national President from 2015-2017.

Local Government

My last Local Government post was as Strategic Director for Adur and Worthing Councils, where I was responsible for their joint EH, Housing, Planning, Regeneration and Leisure Services. I was the Chair of a statutory Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership and a member of the West Sussex Safeguarding Board and its Serious Cases Review Panel.

I previously worked for four London Boroughs and the City of Swansea and was a national adviser on Environmental Protection issues to the Local Government Association for over 10 years. In that role I represented UK Local Government at meetings with Ministers and Senior Civil Servants and in Brussels.

While at Sutton LBC I was the officer lead for achieving whole council accreditation under the EMAS scheme for environmental performance, as well as successful outcomes in Best Value and Corporate Governance performance reviews.

Other roles

I am a Trustee of a West Sussex charity, and have been a trustee of others of varying sizes, taking a particular interest in legal and governance issues. I am a member of UKELA.

I have also been a Non-Executive Director of an NHS national body and served on two committees of the Health Protection Agency. I was a Samaritans listener for over 10 years and retain a strong interest in mental health issues. Since 2011 I have been an adviser for my local Citizens Advice, specialising in providing outreach support.
